Carol é uma mãe e profissional exausta que, num futuro não tão distante dominado pela inteligência artificial, decide participar num retiro virtual, chamado DreamQuil, de bem-estar para recuperar o equilíbrio e salvar a relação com a família. Durante a sua ausência, o marido Gary recebe uma solução aparentemente perfeita: “Carol 2”, uma réplica robótica da esposa, programada para cuidar da casa e dos filhos. O problema começa quando a substituta se recusa a desaparecer após o regresso da original e começa a ocupar, literalmente, o seu lugar. Com Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games”) e John C. Reilly (“Chicago”), “DreamQuil” é um thriller psicológico de ficção científica que, entre o body e o techno horror, aborda temas como a identidade, a maternidade e relações familiares, assim como questiona o preço a pagar se delegarmos à inteligência artificial aquilo que nos torna humanos. Realizado pelo artista visual Alex Prager, na sua estreia na longa-metragem, teve a sua primeira exibição no SXSW.
Carol is an exhausted mother and worker who, in a not-so-distant future dominated by artificial intelligence, decides to take part in a virtual wellness retreat called DreamQuil to regain her balance and save her relationship with her family. During her absence, her husband Gary is offered an apparently perfect solution: “Carol 2”, a robotic replica of his wife, programmed to take care of the house and their children. The problem begins when the substitute refuses to disappear after the original returns and starts to literally take her place. Starring Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games”) and John C. Reilly (“Chicago”), “DreamQuil” is a science-fiction psychological thriller that, somewhere between body horror and techno-horror, explores themes of identity, motherhood and family relationships, while questioning the price we pay when we delegate to artificial intelligence what makes us human. Directed by visual artist Alex Prager in her feature-film debut, it premiered at SXSW.
