Quando o homem que ama é morto pelo fantasma Mag Mag, Sanae decide vingar-se da entidade que lhe roubou o amor. Só que, à medida que procura respostas, descobre que a verdadeira identidade de quem merece a sua vingança é bem diferente daquela que imaginava. A partir daqui, o luto transforma-se numa obsessão e o amor numa maldição que parece impossível de quebrar. Primeira longa-metragem da comediante Yuriyan Retriever, “Mag Mag” pega nas convenções do J-horror e atira-lhes uma boa dose de humor absurdo, romance distorcido e violência. Produzido pela K2 Pictures, nova produtora japonesa associada a nomes como Takashi Miike, Hirokazu Kore-eda e Miwa Nishikawa, o filme é simultaneamente uma história de vingança sobrenatural e uma declaração de amor (pouco saudável) ao género. Afinal, há relações tóxicas e depois há aquelas que literalmente nos matam.
When the man she loves is killed by the ghost Mag Mag, Sanae decides to take revenge on the entity that stole her love. But as she searches for answers, she discovers that the true identity of the person who deserves her vengeance is very different from what she imagined. From there, grief turns into obsession and love into a curse that seems impossible to break. The feature debut of comedian Yuriyan Retriever, “Mag Mag” takes the conventions of J-horror and throws in a generous dose of absurd humour, twisted romance and violence. Produced by K2 Pictures, a new Japanese production company associated with filmmakers such as Takashi Miike, Hirokazu Kore-eda and Miwa Nishikawa, the film is both a supernatural revenge story and a rather unhealthy declaration of love to the genre. After all, there are toxic relationships, and then there are the ones that literally kill you.
